There is a re-vamped site now at tveirhrafnar.com. (OK, that is 'here' now! Aidan 10/2015. Big Cartel were & are fabulous, but I needed some things they don't do and so this new site. Leaving this article up for history.)
The old Wordpress site was a great one, and allowed me to get my shop online in a ‘fairly easy and straightforward’ fashion. It was pretty easy to get going, even for me - being very-not-so tech savvy! It certainly helped that I just attempted to borrow all the design elements from Sarah Lawless’ old Witch of Forest Grove site. Another way that I am indebted to Sarah! More on that in a future post, as in one sense this whole project is her (blessed!) fault.
Amazingly, a whole lot of people went to the trouble of emailing me, and I sold quite a bunch of talismanic goodness. However, I have always been aware that there are a good number of people who never felt comfortable doing the whole ‘contact form to email to invoice to pay’ shebang. So in part I have made the shift to the current site to make it easier for those folks to do business with me.
The main reason, however, is Time & Ease. I am a big fan of both. And like I mentioned above, my tech skills are ‘sort of passable’ and I didn’t really feel the love for any of the more labor intensive solutions. Enter Big Cartel. Rebecca at Kings Road Apothecary (Go buy stuff: Super! Rainbows! Love! Go! is what I would suggest) made me look at them a third time, during my survey of shop-owners who seem really sharp who were not building/coding their own sites.
And I love Big Cartel. It easy to use, they are unbelievably sweet to work with, and a really well priced simple solution. Started by musicians, very into artists of all sorts. Easy. I love it. And it buys me time by not having to do the ‘contact form to email to invoice to pay’ for the basic pieces I sell. Which frees up time for custom work.
Ah, custom work! Over half of the business I do now is custom work. I’ll be VERY pleased if that grows even higher. There’s things I’ve learned that I will blog about in the coming months that will perhaps make things easier on the customer end, as it can be tricky.
(related note: What is with the OUTRAGEOUS complexity of the sigils from you LHP / Qlippothic magic guys? There is only so much room on a pendant! Seriously, it’s like trying to copy the Bible into a Moleskine notebook with a Sharpie. :) Beautiful art, but seriously, dudes, simplify!)
A lot of people have recently come to me for outright sigil design, and I am working out a coherent way to charge for this. For the time being, I am winging it, but I am stoked to work with you on this while I nail down a system.
In the coming months I will start collecting email addresses for something like a monthly update newsletter, as the new site doesn’t allow RSS updates/emails when I add a new piece. In the mean time I will continue sending out news of new work via Twitter, as well as my Facebook Profile and the Tveir Hrafnar Facebook Page.
Oh- and there’s work that was up on the old site that isn’t on the new. For the most part I just didn’t have decent photos of those pieces. I’ll get to those pieces as I can. Ask if you don’t see, it is all available.
Almost-lastly: it isn’t clear on the new site because I haven’t figured out how to make it so, but everything will be shipping between six and eight weeks after you place your order. Currently running at seven-eight, hoping to drop that back down to six as I get caught up.
Actually Lastly: thank you to everyone who has bought anything from me, liked, shared, tweeted, or pinned any of my work! Please continue to do so, it really helps! Especially requesting: O Ye People of Pinterest, Please Pin The Shit Out Of My Work! I am still woefully under represented over there!
