Hexen Sigil - design by Robin Artisson

120.00

A sigil designed by Robin Artisson, and reproduced here with his permission. Robin says this about it:

"The Hex Sigil is an "ensigilation" or aesthetic combination of the letters of the word "Hex", which comes from the German "hexen", meaning "to hex", and is related to "hexe", meaning "witch." All words in this family descend from the Old High German "hagazussa", referring to both a hag, and a "hedge-rider" a person skilled in inducing flying trances and direct contact with the netherworld.

This sigil intentionally makes the 'x" cross a center axis to form a six-legged hex sign and is again crossed by a beam terminating with crescent moons, referring to the surreal lunar world of dreams and visions that are found beyond the solar world of waking consciousness.

A downward-pointing arrow forever indicates the downward direction, the path to the deep and the underworld, and when combined with the storm-related symbolism of the hex-sign, also makes reference to the fatal arrows shot by the stormy Wild Host, whose fearsome company always included those witches and hedge-riders that were marked by Fate to join with the Host cyclically and aid the Fateful powers in claiming the souls and lives of mortals whose time had come to die. In this strange spiritual vocation, scholars see the remnants of an ancient "death divination" practice that was common in earlier times."
