Self-love / Road Opener
Self-love / Road Opener
Self-Love (the side with the sigil with a central motif like two 3’s back to back). Four of these pieces bear a sigil for Self-Love. Self-Love gets a bad rap in some strains of psychology at times by being used as a synonym for narcissism. This is not what we are talking about here! Self-Love is the ability and experience of caring for yourself in a loving, compassionate way. This is not self-obsession or conceit, but rather an appreciation of our value, agency, and (in some cases, particularly in cases of abuse) both our right to exist and to want what we want, for ourselves and others. It is also a fairly critical fore-runner of service. We can be of service without it, but this can at times come from a place of guilt, shame, and in extreme cases, a desire for atonement though martyrdom. This can lead to compassion fatigue, burn-out, and the like. Self-love speaks of taking care of yourself on all levels so that you are healthy enough on all levels to be of service for the long haul. Self-love is a root-point for effective magic: you have to know it is OK for you to be well, to have a good life, and to want what you want or you are sending mixed messages into the Field, which is not a recipe for success! As they say on the plane during the emergency guidelines: fit your own mask first, then you can take care of others.
Road Opener (the eight-armed side). This collection’s pieces all share a sigil, one that I created for Road Opening. Road Opening can be thought of as the foundational piece of magic that allows/helps all others to manifest. This is easily visualized by thinking about getting on the highway, and hitting traffic that moves at a crawl. Soon, your vehicle (or magic, or self) is blocked in front, and as more cars arrive at the blockage, behind you. You’re stuck, or at least moving very, very slowly. Road Opening work is like the emergency services folks getting the blockage out of your way so you can move forward again easily. But it also has other aspects, the largest in my opinion is Optionality. When we have more options, more ways forward, more available possible pathways towards what we seek, we can choose the ones that are most suitable for us in the moment. Perhaps there is an easier way than that which we have thought of, or perhaps a more effective approach. Road Opening work clarifies these options, and hopefully allow us to wisely choose the ones that are best for us in our current situation.
There are a vast array of spirits and Deities who operate in the liminal spaces we often call ‘crossroads’ in magic: Ganesha, Woden, Hekate, Hermes - these beings all have aspects that can assist of Road Opening. All of the (physical) sigils for Road Opening were worked for more than a month on my altar for that work before being soldered into these talismans.
As a two-sided piece, this item is not hallmarked as sterling silver, as I am unwilling to choose a face to damage with the hallmark!
Being entirely hand crafted, each piece is unique, so even pieces based on the same design have significant variations and are one-of-a-kind.
Pendant measures about 1.25" (32mm) in diameter x .135″ (3.2mm) thick, weight is right around 16 grams/ .6 ounces.
